A strong contender for next year’s Classics emerged in the summer at Fukushima.

Until the spring, Piko Chan Black’s racetrack debut had not been highly anticipated, but the colt’s impressive performance against an older rival in his final gallop saw a surge in evaluation just before the race.

Seizing the lead effortlessly in the ten horse field, the son of Kitasan Black secured a seven-length victory without needing to be whipped even once, reminiscent of his sire’s flawless front-running victories.

Piko Chan Black’s grand dam, Ballet Queen, is known as the dam of Japanese Derby winner Fusaichi Concorde and Satsuki Sho winner Unrivaled.

Following in the footsteps of Kitasan Black’s other successful offspring like Satono Carnaval, a graded race winner, and Croix du Nord, who had an impressive debut win, could a new two-year-old star candidate be born? It may only be a matter of time before we see another Equinox emerge.

Piko Chan Black’s owner is the Piko Racing syndicate, recognised for their ‘Piko’ prefixed names.

Future Outlook: Depending on his next race, Piko Chan Black could become a strong contender for next year’s Classic season.
